Having Roger as world no.5 is something really strange…also for him.
The Maestro has added a couple of clay courts tournaments not only to find some more points, but also to find some lost confidence especially after crashing out from Wimbledon in the second round.
Roger: I want to play more…
During the pretournament interview Roger said “I thought, what are my options now? Do I need more practice? Do I need more matches? What does my heart say? I really wanted to play some more matches.”
… I want to win more
“Right now I just want to win a lot of matches, hopefully win a couple of tournaments and then sort of build confidence and go from there into the hard courts.” added Roger.
Getting back some good sensations
Roger has already won this tournament 4 times to comment. “I first entered into the Top 10 at Hamburg in 2002. That is something that can never be taken away from Hamburg or me. It was one of my dreams. I have always enjoyed coming back here, winning here. I have had milestone victories here and also times when I have learnt a lot. “
Opener vs. Brands
Roger will play his opener against Daniel Brands (world no.58) that has defeated Lorenzi 7-5 6-3.
