Stefanos Tsitsipas is doing everything he can to support his brother Petros, but helping him have a wild card for Marseille’s main draw doesn’t seem a good idea. Petros Tsitsipas has a world no.960 career-high and he has huge difficulties in winning matches even in the early round of (very) minor tournaments. The move was slammed as sheer nepotism and this is something extremely detrimental for Stefanos and also and especially his brother Petros.
This is Petros Tsitsipas‘ record.
Nepotism in tennis and the cases of Djokovic and Osaka
Nepotism is never a good look and it is often slammed in tennis especially when wildcards are awarded to siblings of famous tennis players.
Novak Djokovic is often unfairly criticized by the media for many things, but it was difficult to side with him when he lobbied to make his brother Marko receive a series of wild cards. Eventually, that ended badly also for his brother that was continuously slammed for this.
Once even Mari Osaka, Naomi’s sister, received a controversial wild card for the Miami Open’s main draw in 2019 that resolved in a very predictable straight-set loss. The result was just attracting bad attention. This is what happens.
Petros Tsitsipas is a worse tennis player than Mari Osaka https://t.co/Nz0RCqbslt

Mari Osaka / Petros Tsitsipas should team up for mixed doubles at Roland Garrod https://t.co/95jKwUONp8

It is nice that Stefanos helps his brother Petros playing doubles together, but it would be better for them not to “force” these wild cards especially for Petros’ sake.
These were some of the comments on social media with a poll of how many games Petros can win in the first round in Marseille.

How embarrassing is it that a player who clearly not even has the futures level, gets a wildcards because he has a famous tennis brother. Just so sad
