Novak Djokovic won a fantastic 18th slam after conquering a mind-blowing 9th Australian Open. The Serbian sensation had to battle against all sorts of adversities and it was great in overcoming an abdominal injury.
Unfortunately, once again, Novak’s father created more problems for his son with some more inopportune statements. Srdjan has always maintained that his son is unfairly criticized by the media that tend to side with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Srdjan had an emotional outburst when talking with the Serbian newspaper “Kurir.”
“At the worst time for the Serbian people, he was sent by God to show us that we are ordinary people and not a group of violent assassins. For me personally, he even extended his grandfather’s life.
“In Banja Luka, where ‘Grandpa Nola’ lived, he watched every game even though he was seriously ill. He was always impatient when Novak played, so he extended his life by several years. And so did many of my friends,” said Srdjan.
“They told me it was the same with them. He makes a fairytale out of the life of old people.”
Djokovic vs. the west
Srdjan said that Novak has a huge problem with the west and for this reason he always performs well in China (well his son performs tremendously well everywhere!).
“All normal people in the world love him. Have you ever wondered why he plays best in China? He feels love there, real love – something he is not allowed to experience in the west. In the west they think that only they exist, but they are only one fifth of the world,” he added.
“The western media have only focused on Federer and Nadal and didn’t pay any attention to Novak. That was the only way to stop him.”

Novak is definitely a great “loser” in tennis. The world no.1 is rarely defeated, but when he has to bow he is extremely gracious in defeat to always compliment his opponents at the net even if most probably he is upset.
Srdjan stressed the great behavior of the Serbian legend saying that it is not recognized:
“Between the three players, it’s him against the other side. He not only fights for himself, he also fights for other players who can barely make ends meet. He has such nice manners. How he greets his opponents, how he behaves towards the hosts, how he holds out his hand and kisses the opponent when he loses. Which athlete does this? He has seldom received a fair play award. And do you know how many Federer has? 15… “

Novak Djokovic in 2021
Currently ranked no.1, the Serbian played his last match on the 21st of February when he overcame Daniil Medvedev 7-5 6-2 6-2 in the final of the Australian Open to win his 82nd career title.
Currently, during this season Djokovic owns a composed 9-0 match record. Novak clinched 1 title at the Australian Open.
Rafael Nadal in 2021
Currently ranked no.2, Nadal played his last match on the 17th of February when he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas 3-6 2-6 7-6(4) 6-4 7-5 in the quarter of the Australian Open (draw).
Until now, during this year the Spaniard owns a 4-1 match record.
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal played each other 56 times. Their current head to head is 29-27 for Djokovic. The last time they squared off, Rafael Nadal won 6-0 6-2 7-5 in the final in Paris (French Open) in October 2020.
