Naomi Osaka, Jennifer Brady, Serena Williams and Karolina Muchova are leading the WTA rankings in 2021

Naomi Osaka, Jennifer Brady, Serena Williams and Karolina Muchova are in pole position in the so-called Race to Shenzhen. The 4 Australian Open semifinalists are leading the rest of the pack in the WTA Year to Date rankings.

Obviously, this is just an indication as we are at the beginning of the year. In addition, Serena Williams is never willing to play the WTA Finals. Therefore, it is plausible that if she qualifies for the season’s finale she will give it yet another miss.

The world no.1 Ashleigh Barty is only in the 5th position and things are not moving right for her as she has just lost in the 2nd round of the current WTA event in Adelaide.
