Even if Johanna is a British player, she was born in Sydney Australia, on the 17th May 1991, the daughter of Hungarian parents Gábor, a hotel manager, and Gabriella, a dentist. Johanna’s parents emigrated separately from Hungary to Australia, where they met. Konta has a half-sister, Eva Mumford, from her father’s previous marriage. Eva is married to Australian Rules Footballer Shane Mumford.
Johanna spent her childhood north of Sydney in Collaroy. Then when she was just 14 she moved to Barcelona to train at the Sánchez-Casal Tennis Academy where she spent 15 months. During that time, her parents settled down in England (Eastbourne)
In 2012, Johanna switched nationality to become a British citizen. In 2016 she was harshly criticized for this change of heart during the Australian Open.
