Daniil Medvedev is about to play the Australian Open final against the great Novak Djokovic. The Russian sensation seems to be more and more of a threat to the domination of the big3 and he is now flaunting a 20-matches winning streak.
Daniil is well-known for being a “chess master” when playing tennis for his ability to read the game and the moment extremely well. The Russian ace can also rely on the firm presence of 2 pillars in his team: his coach Gilles Cervara and his wife, Daria.

Daniil’s wife is crucial for his performance also because she understands tennis. Daria used to play competitively until she was 18, but then she couldn’t pursue her career because of a string of injuries. Therefore, she decided to stop supporting her future husband.
“She played tennis until she was 17 or 18, but because of injuries, she couldn’t reach the desired level,” Daniil commented.
Nevertheless, it’s great that she understands tennis. She knows that we can’t go shopping before the game. Understands that I can be busy from 8 am until the evening.”
This is a crucial point for a tennis player. Quite often, his colleagues have been caught struggling in relationships with their girlfriend, not understanding the sacrifices required to play the sport at the very top.
This is what has probably happened to Sascha Zverev. According to his parents, his former girlfriend Olya Sharypova was struggling to understand their son’s routine even if she used to play tennis. “It was clear she had another lifestyle. Sascha has a disciplined lifestyle as an athlete, she was a party girl,” they commented.
Medvedev stressed this point by saying: “Perhaps it’s not easy to get used to it when you don’t understand anything in tennis. It helped me to become better as a person and a player.”
Their wedding
Daniil and Daria got married pretty soon, on the 12th of September 2018. That was a pivotal moment for Daniil, not only from a personal point of view but also for his career. He conceded that getting married helped him to settle down. Daniil revealed that since he made the proposal, his tennis started to improve dramatically with his growing confidence.
“She gave me a lot of confidence. I always say that it’s the moment I made the proposal to her, that’s when I started to go up,” he said.
