Daniil Medvedev played a fantastic semifinal at the Australian Open to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets. Daniil has won the last 20 matches and he is considered by many as the favorite to win the Australian Open over the great Novak Djokovic.
Stefanos has a rough rivalry against Daniil and after his defeat, he said that the Russian champion has definitely his chances to win the slam Down Under. Stefanos added that it would also be good for tennis if Medvedev wins the major.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Daniil win the tournament. But, you know, it’s a strange scenario
I played Rafa here two years ago. I found his performance against me that day phenomenal. I was 100% sure he was gonna win the tournament. And I ended up being wrong. Who knows? I don’t know. Like, Djokovic is playing well too.
Look, I’m not a betting website. I don’t know what to say. Might be Medvedev, would be good for him, good for tennis.”
Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic fought against each other 7 times. Their actual record is 4-3 for Djokovic. Previously, the last time when they locked horns, Daniil Medvedev won 6-3 6-3 in the round robin in London (Nitto ATP Finals) in November 2020.
