Stefanos Tsitsipas has just won one of the most incredible matches of his young career. The Greek ace defeated the great Rafael Nadal after recovering from a 0-2 sets deficit in the Australian Open quarter-finals.
The Greek sensation showed off an incredible mental strength and it was clear that he was prepared to cope with all sorts of situations also thanks to his great coaching team.
Stefanos Tsitsipas coaches
While Stefanos’ father Apostolos is his main coach, the world no.6 has been using the Patrick Mouratoglou Tennis Academy services. The tennis coach of Serena Williams has a team of people that help many players on both the ATP and the WTA tours. Patrick loves coaching, and he is also involved in mentoring some of the top players that are part of his Academy. Therefore, it is not uncommon to see Mouratoglou also during the matches of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Coco Gauff.
During the press conference that followed his quarterfinal against Nadal, Stefanos had some great words for Patrick, saying that he is a sort of “guru.” In addition, he mentioned Kerei Abakar, a coach working at the Academy that is involved daily to help Stefanos.
“Patrick has a lot of experience in tennis. He has been around for a very long time. Has worked with a lot of players. I’m very happy that he’s part of my team. I’m very happy that he’s there, not just supporting me but also guiding me. I feel huge connection with him. He’s a great guy on and off the court. He’s kind of a guru of tennis, I think. I’m lucky to have one of them in part of my team.
He analyzes. He sees the game very clearly. He has helped a lot with my game. And also Kerei Abakar, who’s my coach in the academy, who doesn’t happen to be here but he’s watching and helping me get to where I want one day. We have a very good team. We are very loyal to one another and I think it’s also important that we love one another, which puts a bit of extra affection.”
