Novak was born on the 22nd of May 1987 in Belgrade to Srđan and Dijana Đoković. He has 2 brothers that are also playing professional tennis: Marko and Djordje. Novak met his wife Jelena in high school back in 2005. and they have 2 children together: Tara and Stefan. Jelena is actively involved in the Novak Djokovic foundation that has as the main target to help and support children.

Novak started to play tennis when he was just 4. At 6, Djokovic was spotted by Jelena Genčić that was amazed by his talent. Later, when he was 12 he moved to the Pilić tennis academy in Germany where he trained for 4 years.

Novak is currently coached by both Marijan Vajda and Goran Ivanisevic. Marco Panichi is taking care of his fitness.
