ABDOMINAL INJURIES. Djokovic, Berrettini, Carreno-Busta, Ruud all struggling at the Australian Open

Novak Djokovic, Matteo Berrettini, Pablo Carreno-Busta and Casper Ruud have been experiencing abdominal injuries in Melbourne. Djokovic is the only one that didn't retire.

There is a “strange” phenomenon at the Australian Open as many players have been struggling with abdominal injuries. Novak Djokovic, Matteo Berrettini, Pablo Carreno-Busta and Casper Ruud are the most notable names that have this issue.

Djokovic still playing despite injury

Interesting enough, the world no.1 was the only one that has decided not to retire. Nole said that the only reason why he didn’t pull out from the Australian Open is that it is a slam. He got injured during the 3rd set against Taylor Fritz, but he has found the way to beat the American before defeated Milos Raonic in the following round.

Regarding the other players, Berrettini had to concede a walkover in the quarters to Stefanos Tsitsipas; Ruud had to withdraw when playing the 4th round against Andrey Rublev, and Carreno-Busta retired when facing Grigor Dimitrov in the 3rd round.

After withdrawing, Berrettini said:

“I thought that wasn’t something really big, but the next day when I woke up I felt it was big. So I spoke to the doctors and they told me, look, I can get really worse, so it’s not worth the try.”
