Rafael Nadal has won the title in Monte-Carlo 11 times and in all sorts of conditions and against all sorts of opponents. Rafa may conquer his 12th title in the Principality in a completely new environment this year: without fans.

The organization released the following statement

“Dear Spectators,

We wish to inform you that the ROLEX MONTE-CARLO MASTERS will take place from 10 to 18 April behind closed doors, in accordance with the latest government measures which extend the state of health emergency until May 3, 2021.

Our teams remain fully mobilised and motivated to welcome the best players in the world who, despite this particularly difficult period, will be here to provide a spectacular event.

Please note that this 114th edition of the Monte-Carlo tournament will be broadcast on television from 11 to 18 April on Eurosport, and on April 17 and 18 also on C8

In the meantime, dear Spectators, please accept our very best regards.”

The tournament was not played in 2020 because of the global pandemic. Therefore, the defending champion is Fabio Fognini that in 2019 won the event after beating Dusan Lajovic in the final 6-3 6-4.

Fabio Fognini will compete against De Minaur in the 3rd round. They have never competed against each other up to now in top events.
