An incredible start of the seasons when Rafa won a whopping 7 titles (and 2 finals) was not enough for him to get a higher ranking in Wimbledon.
The King of Clay is definitely playing at his best to comfortably lead the year to date ranking by 2000 pts over Novak Djokovic, but he is still ranked as world no.5 as he didn’t get any point last year from the second part of the season because he was injured.
The Wimbledon organisation confirmed that they are going to follow the official rankings with some little rearrangements related to the recent results obtained on grass.
The Controversy
Nadal’s ranking has been at the centre of controversy with some players being against it (ie. Murray) and some others accepting it as an almost necessary evil (Federer and Nadal).
Seeding Rafa no.5 means that the 2008 and 2010 champion will likely play against Djokovic, Murray or Federer in the quarters.
This also means that if Rafa wants to win this Wimbledon he will have to plausibilty beat all the other big 4!
