Davis Cup Updates: Kazakhstan makes history!

Something incredible happened yesterday at the CEZ.Arena…Kazakhstan, not the Czeck Republic will go to the final eight!
What happened? People that see too many movies may think that it came from Borat that from his height could serve aces Karlovic style… but Kazakhstan was much more than this.
Although they do not have any top 10 player, they have quite good players in the first top 100 positions (Andrey Golubev world nr. 43 and Mikhail Kukushkin ranked 63).
Golubev was the hero. He gave the lead to his team after the first match with a 5 set victory (6-7(4) 7-6(3) 6-1 6-7(4) 3-6) over Hajek.
Then it was Berdych’s time and the home side had 2 consecutive wins in the following single where the the world Nr.7 defeated Kukushkin in straight sets (7-6(5) 6-2 6-3) and in the doubles where Berdich and Dlouhy defeated Korolev and Schukin  6-4 6-4 7-6 (4).
At that point it was almost game over. the next match had a predictable outcome, Berdych would have played Golubev… but .. surprise.. surprise.. he lost in 4 sets! (7-5 5-7 6-4 6-2)
The decider was Kukushkin vs Hajek. The former won 6-4 6-7 (4) 7-6 (8) 6-0 and Kazakhstan made a fantqastic history.
Serbia – India 4-1 
2010 Davis Cup hero, victor Troiki was .. hero again. 
Serbia was already leading 2-1 after the doubles.
Then the world nr. 18 won in straight sets over Devvarman (6-4 6-2 7-5) to gave to his side the quarter-finals.
Tipsaveric defeated world nr. 285 Rastogi 6-0 6-1.
Sweden – Russia 3-2
Sweden was already in the final eight after the doubles.
Russia saved the face with 2 victories in the last 2 matches
Tursunov – Aspelin 6-2 7-5
Andreev – Johansson 6-4 7-6 (8)
Argentina – Romania 4-1 
Argentina had already a 3-0 lead after the doubles.
Schwank defeated Crivoi 7-6 (3) 6-2 and Ungur (world nr. 183) defeated Monaco 6-4 2-6 6-3 to bring the only point for his side
Chile – USA 1-4
USA had a lead of 2-1 after the doubles.
They needed only 1 victory and it came from Andy Roddick that defeated in 4th sets world nr. 165 Paul Capdeville (3-6 7-6(2) 6-3 6-3.
Then Isner had a difficult victory against world nr.352 Rivera-Aranguz 6-3 6-7(4) 7-5
Belgium – Spain 1-4
Spain was leading already 3-0 after the doubles.
Then Nadal breezed past Rochus (6-4 6-2) and Darcis won against Lopez 6-7 (4) 7-6 (6) 7-6 (3)
Croatia – Germany 2-3
Cilic’s victory over Kohlschreiber (6-2 6-3 7-6 (6)) leveledt he 2 sides on a 2-2 score.
Then Petzschner became the hero winning 6-4 7-6 (3) 7-6 (5) over Ivo Karlovic in the decider.
Austria – France 2-3
2010 Davis Cup finalist had a thrilling victory over Austria.
Melzer had an inspiring victory over Gilles Simon in 5 sets 7-6 (6) 3-6 1-6 6-4 6-0 to go to 2-2.
After having upset Melzer in the 1st round, Chardy won also the decider over Fisher 2-6 7-6 (4) 6-3 6-3.
