CORONAVIRUS. Tennis stops on Thursday. There are concerns about the Australian Open

Tennis was halted in Melbourne and there are obvious concerns about the feasibility of the Australian Open

Things are getting tricky Down Under. This week, the tennis fans were blessed with 6 tournaments and hundreds and hundreds of matches that were played with an actual crowd. That was quite a novelty for tennis and we had all the opportunity to see scenes that were almost forgotten.

However, while things looked great, a piece of rather bizarre news broke: tennis will be stopped on Thursday!

What happened?

A 26-year-old worker at the Grand Hyatt Hotel was found positive for Coronavirus. That is one of the hotels used by Tennis Australia for the 14 days’ quarantine. Therefore, the tournaments cannot resume until all players are tested negative.

While we all hope that the person involved will have a swift and complete recovery, there is an obvious worry about the Australian Open’s feasibility. With these kinds of rules, it seems plausible that there will be many days off when playing the first slam of the year if the competitions are stopped every time that a person tests positive for Coronavirus.

Will the Australian Open be played?

According to Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews the slam is not in danger, at least for now. The situation is constantly developing and therefore there is no certainty about the future of this major this year and how it will be played. In the meantime, the draw ceremony has been delayed.
