SWTE – Singapore Women’s Tennis Exhibition

The Michezo Group announced that they will be organising a 3-day exhibition tournament featuring six of some of the best Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) players at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 16 – 18 December. This marks a return of professional women’s tennis to Singapore four years after the Republic last hosted an exhibition game involving WTA players in 2007.
Four of the six players have confirmed their participation and the impressive players’ list includes current US Open Women’s Singles Champion, Samantha Stosur from Australia (currently ranked 7th), Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland (ranked 13th), Peng Shuai from
China (ranked 15th) and Svetlana Kuznetsova from Russia (ranked 19th).
The top two seeded players from the final list of players will automatically qualify for the Semi Finals on Saturday while the remaining four players will compete  in two qualifying rounds on Friday. Spectators will enjoy two matches per day and the players are also expected to host a clinic for selected juniors and attend a charity gala dinner during their stay in Singapore.
Group Chairman of the Michezo Group, Hicham Moudden, said, “We are pleased to be able to bring this exciting tournament to Singapore. The vibrant sports scene here is missing world class tennis action and we are glad that we can help fill this gap. This is the beginning of an exciting journey and we are determined to being in a full-fledged WTA tournament in the near future.”
The Michezo Group is also in discussion with the WTA to host a WTA tournament in Singapore in 2012 or 2013. There are also plans for the company to operate  a tennis academy in Singapore. The Michezo Group is a sport development company that is

dedicated  to promote sports in the Asia Pacific region. The company has its headquarters in Singapore and is focused on developing the community through sports development. The company is also involved with two of the football teams (Tanjong Pagar United FC and Etoile FC) in Singapore’s professional football league.
Former French professional tennis player, Alexia Dechaume and Uthrapathy Shunmugan will serve as the tournament’s co-directors and the three-day tournament will serve as a good playing platform for the players before they head off for their Christmas break and get ready for the new season starting in Australia.
Stosur, currently ranked seventh after her blistering win over Serena Williams in New York is looking forward to her first visit to Singapore. She said, “I am looking forward to come and play in Singapore and I am sure it’s going to be an exciting event for all the tennis fans in this part of
Asia.”
