Nadal wins an epic match vs Del Potro to secure the fifth Davis Cup for Spain (3-1)

In a fully packed Olympic Stadium in Seville, Nadals confirms that his passion for tennis is still there…and for long…
The match was a typical ‘strange Davis Cup rubber’. Del Potro had an amazing start when he managed to win 7 games in a row to found himself leading 6-1 1-0 and 40-0.
At that point there was a ‘strange vamos’ from Nadal (40-15?) and everything changed… Del Potro shots became less powerful and Nadal was back to his status (King of Clay).
The Spaniard, that did not have any answer till that moment, won the next 2 sets 6-4 6-1.
The last set was quite drammatic with a comeback from Del Potro thaqt found himself leading 5-3. The Rafa managed to bring the set to the tiebreak to win it without losing a single point.
“It was a very emotional match and I am happy for the team,” said Nadal,“It was the most amazing atmosphere I have ever played in. The crowd were crazy. Everything was perfect, it was complicated at the start of the match, but the beginning of the second set was very important and at 1-0 and 40-0 that was the turning point for me.Delpo was playing amazingly today, especially the flat shots, it was really hard”
“I am not going to play Davis Cup in 2012 because of the overloaded calendar,” said Nadal.
“With the Olympics, it has become even more a mission impossible,” added Rafa, “For many years I have been the man who has played the most matches. I have to be careful and not overplay. As far as the following years are concerned, we will see. But next year, no.”
‘It was an unbelievable match. These guys are great and that’s why we were in the final,” said Spanish captain Albert Costa.“Rafa tried to play deeper and harder because at the start Del Potro was inside the line and hitting so hard. He fought hard so that’s why we won.”
Well Done Spain!
