Serena came to this quarters in great style leaving peanuts to her opponents. This match wasn’t as easy.
Serena started in great fashion to grab the first set in “Serena – style” with an emphatic 6-1. Then things changed dramatically with the Russian fighting back and winning 8 of the next 11 games to lead 1-6 6-3 2-0 in the third set.
At that point Serena was thinking that she would have missed another semifinal at the French Open “That was just a brief, brief, brief, like fleeting thought,” said Serena “And after that it was just, ‘Let’s just play this match and let’s just do the best that I can.’ “
Finally Serena won 6 of the next seven games to win the decider 6-3.
