Ivanovic produced a masterpiece against Caroline playing a tennis that remembered the ‘nice old times’.
“I just really knew I had to be aggressive and I knew I had to accept mistakes because she does make you play extra balls,” Ana said . “I did that really well, and I served much, much better than I did in the last match.”
“I’m very happy,” she added. “I think I didn’t do much wrong today besides the first few games on my serve, but I’m really pleased the way I was aggressive. I just stayed in the match and played point by point and did I think everything I should have done today.”
Talking about her next match against Bartoli and the fact that last year Marion defeated her “It would be nice to get revenge on that. She’s very tough competitor, and she does move well actually and strikes the ball really good and creates a lot of angles with double handed on both sides. But I think it’s very important for me to stay aggressive again. And obviously, my serve it’s gonna be again a big point because I felt today when I managed to stay calm and hold my serves I could put so much more pressure on her.”
And Caroline? Well apparently she is going to lose even the 4th spot in the WTA ranking after this defeat. “She just went on a roll,” she said. “She started to hit the ball harder, and, you know, it was going in. I stepped back a little bit, and it gave her the time to do what she wanted. She just played better than me today, and I just need to get back and practice on a few things and hopefully get back strong for Miami.”
