Gonzales played his last match with Mahut – 2012 ATP Sony Ericsson Miami – YouTube Video Tribute

The day had to come.. and it came. Gonzo already annunced in February his retirement after the Sony Ericsson.

Fernando won 11 ATP titles and was the Australian Open finalist in 2007. His major feast was the gold he won in the 2004 Olympics Games in Athens with Nicolas Massu.

Taking his own words he will be definately remembered as a player that  gave …. ‘100 percent every single time when he went to the court. And, of course, I think is much better to remember as a person than as a tennis player.’

A nice touch came by the tournament organizers that showed a video about his formidable career. ‘At the end, the video was great. It’s not only about tennis. It’s also about friends,’ Gonzalez said. ‘I mean, we’ve been playing against each other many times, but at the end of the day we are friends. We have a great relationship. Of course, the atmosphere was great. We’re really far away from Chile, and there was little flags. There was my family here. I had a lot of friends, and I really enjoyed the moment.’

Mano de Petra was lots and lots of fun.

Good luck Gonzo!
