The Ladies tennis is more and more exciting. 2012 was meant to be the year of Kvitova, but we got something completely different. First a smashing Azarenka, second her rivalry with Sharapova, third… everybody else!
In fact, now we also have a wonderful comeback from the terrible Williams, a resurrected enjoyable Ivanovic, a very focussed Radwanska that desperately wants to further climb up the WTA ranking and (above all) Kleybanova’s super succesful comeback from the toughest battle ever (against a cancer)
Venus is definately one of he hottest players of the tournaments. After the demolition of Date-Krumm in the first round, she had a wonderful victory over Petra Kvitova with a telling 6-0 in the the last set (6-4, 4-6, 6-0). Now Venus had an amazing one also with Wozniak. The American had to survive a Match Point in the 10th game of the third set to win 4-6 6-4 7-6 (5).
“You have to close out these tough matches,” said Wozniak. “I had that match point against her, but I wasn’t able to stay mentally tough. You need to keep fighting.
“We both played well. It was a matter of converting on the important points. It’s never easy in the intense moments. A lot goes on in the mind,” she added. “You are fighting and you want every point so badly, you want to make an ace or hit a winner. This was a tough one to lose.”
Venus will play next Ana Ivanovic that won a ‘very good looking match’ with Daniela Hantuchova 6-3 7-6 (2). The Serb is definately on the roll and really determined to get back to a top 10 (or 5?) ranking.
‘I’m very, very happy,’ Ivanovic said . ‘It was a tough third-round match for both of us. I played well in the first set and managed to stay calm in the second, which was very important.’
Then we had Radwanska that letf only 3 games to Espinoza to get to the 3rd round against Muguruza Blanco (6-2 1-6 7-6 (6) with Flavia Pennetta.
Upsss.. and finally…. Azarenka trashes Watson 6-0 6-2 (but is this a ‘news’?)
