USA defeats France 3-2 to play Spain in the semis – 2012 Davis Cup – YouTube Highlights

It’s Isner Cup!

Big John was no short of confidence when he had to take on Tsonga especially after his triumph in Switzerland against king Roger in the first round.

It was an easier than expectd 6-3 7-6(4) 5-7 6-3 with Isner always in control. Tsonga had a moment of glory when he broke the American giant on the 11th game in the 3rd set. But the Frenchman found himself 5-3 down in no time in the next set. It was a piece of cake for Isner to win the final game at 0.

“I like playing on clay,” Isner said. “I played three of my best matches this year, my best wins have come on clay. It’s a surface I enjoy playing on and a surface I feel I can do very well on.”

“I had a great week of practice and I was ready to go,” he added. “Just like on Friday, I came out there and played very well and I’m just very thrilled with my performance. I’m very happy that our team is going on to the semifinals.”

“He just played well and I wasn’t in good shape,” a very sad Tsonga said. “John was just better than me and he played the important points pretty well. When you play like that, serve like that, you can play everywhere, so I was not surprised he played well on clay.”

Then there was time for Harrison to play and with Simon. The result was 6-2 6-3 for the Frenchman.

USA will play Spain in the semifinals away and on clay (again!).

The Americans will be (again) the clear underdogs especially if Rafa is going to play, but with this team everything is possible!
