Isner and Russell win the all American quarters – 2012 US Men’s Clay Court Championship – ATP Houston

Big John keeps his march.

Now it was the time of Ryan Sweeting that has always a good feeling when he plays in Houston. Both players were unable to break their opponent. Sweeting had more break points than Isner (6-3), but if you cannot convert them.. that does not count.

So the match was decided by 2 tie breaks (Isner speciality) and the the American giant won both of them.

John will play the semis against Berloq or Feliciano Lopez.

Russell keeps on surprise everybody. He trashed Fish and now he defeated Harrison (14 years younger) in 3 sets.

Interesting enough there was the sensation that Michael was about to produce another trash when he won the first set 6-1, then a reality check did bring him to the 3rd to win it 6-3.

‘I feel good,’ Russell said. ‘Obviously, I would’ve liked to maybe win that in straight sets. I felt like I let up a little bit in the second. I was playing really well in the first set, but I’m happy to get through it.’

Russel will play Monaco that had a very good victory over Kevin Anderson 7-6 (4) 7-5. Pico has now a remarkable 14 wins in 19 matches record i 2012.

‘I’m trying to not think about that,” Monaco said. “I’m just trying to improve my tennis. If I’m winning matches, then the ranking and all the points, that will come along.

‘I knew it was going to be a very close match. You never know when you play big-serving guys. I was focused all during the match, and I tried to win my serves, and then when I got a few opportunities for a break, I played my best tennis there. I tried to be very, very focused on those moments and I did it.’
