Monaco defeats Isner to win the 2012 ATP US Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston – Youtube Highlights

Pico is in great form.

In Houston he had to cope with a very strong opponent, with a fierce wind and with… the stress of having to fly in no time to Monte-Carlo to ply his first round!

The match was a really battle with Pico winning a very good first set. The ISner fought back in the second to go to a real battle in the decider. The critical moment was when Pico was serving on the 2-2 score and he managed to save 2 break points brushing lines to win his serve game. That boosted the confidence of the Argentine that won the set 6-3. ‘The final set, it was a battle,’ Monaco said. ‘We fought to the last point.’

‘This is a great moment in my career,’ Monaco said. ‘I’m very happy about that. Now, I have to keep working. This season is just the start. I have the clay season in Europe, which is very important for me.’

Monaco is now rushing to Monte-Carlo where he has to play his first tournament on Tuesday.

‘No time to rest,’ Monaco said. ‘I’m just going to make a quick warmup, and then I’m going to go on the court. My energy is OK. I’ve played a lot of hours here (in Houston). I don’t need to practice, I just need to focus on the match and do my best.’

After this tournament Isner will be ranked world nr.8.
