Intense play in Stuttgart with a couple of interesting upsets.

[W] BARTHEL – BARTOLI 6-3 6-1

Mona keeps on stunning strong players. The day before she upset Ivanovic in straight sets, and now she badly trashed Marino Bartoli in 71 minutes blasting 7 aces and without conceding a break point.
“It was one of the best matches of my life,” said Barthel, “I was immediately able to put her serve under pressure. It’s great to have won my first match against a Top 10 player. It’s something special.”
Barthel will play Azarenka in the next round. It is gong to be interesting to see if she can keep this march.


KERBER – WOZNIACKI 6-1 6-2

Caroline is definately struggling. The match lasted barely 1 hourwith Caroline not able to produce her tennis. She won  only 1 point on her second serve (!) and she never managed to play a break point on Angelique’s serve. 
Kerber will play Kvitov in the next round


KVITOVA – SCHIAVONE 6-2 6-2

Francesca was chasing a revenge against Petra after been beat during the week end at the Fed Cup, but this time it was even worse. The mast lasted exacly 1 hour with the Czech in completely of the situation.


AZARENKA – PETKOVIC 6-2 4-4 Ret

What a shame here! Andrea was giving hard time to Vika. The matth was quite alive with the crown excited by the home player when the German twisted her ankle when she was trying to hit a forehand. The home crowd muted immediately. Andrea had to retire. 
“It’s such a tough situation and the ankle right away blew up,” said Azarenka “I hope she recovers soon because she is a great player. Andrea is one if the players who is tough mentally, she is a great fighter,” she said.

In the following interview Vika looks a be worried to play stunning Barthel in front of her home crowd. The Belarus won al the 3 match tey played this year at the Austrlian Open, in Doha and at Indian Wells, but the last one was very tough. 
 


STOSUR – GOERGES 6-2 2-6 6-3

Sam had a fine match with “gorgious Goerges”. The match was an erratic battle where both players won a set with the same result (6-2). The decider went probably to the most solid one. The tournament loses the last year champion.
Stosur will play Sharapova in the next round.
