Makarova played a very good match to defeat the Italian 6-3 6-4 in 77 minutes. The Italian was unable to play her best tennis to be broken 4 times. Makarova will play either Venus Williams or Simona Halep in tyhe next round
Goerges
Goerges had a difficult win with Aleksandra Wozniak from Poland. After a very good set when Julia won 6-1 she fell in the second at a horrible tiebreak (lost to 1) to win the third set 6-3. Goerges will clash with Marion Bartoli in the second round.
Kerber
Kerber defeated qualfier Rodionova 4-6 7-5 6-2 in 2h and 18minutes to play Vania King in the next round.
Ivanovic
In the match of the day, Ana Ivanovic dispatches Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4 6-3 in 77 minutes. Ana was quite effective to save 5 out of 7 break points conceded while she was really effective to convert all 5 break points conceded by the Russian.
“It was tough out there today but it was the same for both of us,” said Ivanovic. “I just tried to move and to adjust and really tried to look at the ball and move forward. It was difficult at times and the gusts of wind would come out of nowhere, but it was a good match.”
Ana will play either wildcarded Brianti or Soler-Espinosa in the next round
