What a tournament, what a fairy tale! Brian Baker did not win the title, but he staged a remarkable return after being 7 years away from the ATP tour.Brian got to the final defeating big name such as Monfils and Davydenko coming from the qualifications! But this time he had to face a tougher opponent, Almagro, that is a super player especially on the clay. The final had a clear outcome with the Spaniard conceding only 5 games in 69 minutes. “Baker lost the final today, but he is back, he is playing very good. I think if he plays as he did this week, then he will win many, many tournaments,” said Almagro.“It was a great week. Every time you go onto court you want to win. I am a competitor, I hate losing,” said Baker.“But it has been an unbelievable week. I hoped to qualify at the start of the week and win a match or two, before going to Roland Garros. Obviously, I did much better than that. I think even in the qualifying, I felt as if I was playing pretty well.I won my three matches easily and knew I was playing good tennis.”
This is the 12th career title for Almagro. Baker will be ranked 140 (from 216).
