Tricky match for Nole that struggled in the opener to get rid of the Italian. Starace was playing a very good tennis not to allow the Serb to fly away in the scoreline. Eventually Djokovic did grab the opener only at the tiebreak to then have an easy win in the following 2 sets.
“Potito is a specialist on this surface but I played well considering it was the first match at this year’s Roland Garros,” said Djokovic, “I hope to go on and get good results, but it’s too early to talk about the final.”
“The situation that I found myself in this year before Roland Garros is to make history eventually if I go all the way through,” Djokovic said. “But, look, it doesn’t give me an extra negative pressure; I really think it’s a challenge and something to embrace and to enjoy.”

“It’s a big record, because that was longevity. Jimmy is obviously one of the greats of all time, and was around for 20 years,” said Roger “I have been so successful for such a long time and to already tie that record which is 30 years old is pretty incredible.”
“When you look at the tournaments like this and you step back, you realize you have been playing for quite a long time.
