On the other side of the court there was Razzano (world no.111) that was able to come back 1 set down to finally win 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3. The third set was a bit of a drama with Serena surging from 0-5 to 3-5 to then surrender to her fate.
Serena appeared to be close to tears many times in and out the court “I’ve been through so much in my life, and … I’m not happy, by no means,” said Williams, . “I just always think things can be worse.”
“I never really feel anything slipping away or anything,” Williams added. “I just felt I couldn’t get a ball in play.”

Maria was getting ready for the showdown with Serena in the quarters (that is not going to happen) in style. The Russian beauty won with the perfect score blasting 18 winners (0 for the Romanian) to wrap up the match (what match?) in 48 painful minutes.
