Federer makes history, Djokovic to the 3rd round – 2012 Roland Garros

Guess what? Roger broke another record.

FEDERER – UNGUR 6-3 6-2 6-7 (6) 6-3

This time the Swiss became the man with most wins in Grand Slams (234) one above Jimmy Connors.

The match wasn’t so easy for the Swiss Maestro that had some wobbling in the third set, but you can expect that. In fact, after breezing through the first 2 sets, he somewhat struggled in the 3rd set to waste two match points and lose the tiebreak. Then Roger regrouped to win the 4th set 6-3.

“Instead of being aggressive I let him show me what he could do,” Federer said about the two lost matchpoints. “He played two beautiful shots and he played very well.”

That doesn’t really matter, nobody will remember this match, but the super record will stay there for memories. And you know what? Roger is “only” 30 years old… So this record will grow exponentially. Can Roger aim at 300?

DJOKOVIC – KAVCIC 6-0 6-4 6-4

Nole had a perfect start of the match to win 7 consecutive games. Than Kavcic had good comeback to give problems to the Serb that had to sweat a lot to win the match.

“He was defending really well in the second and third sets, especially in the second. He wasn’t missing as many balls as in the first set. But I gave him the opportunity to come back into the match after a perfect first set, first seven games. But this is tennis.”

“He didn’t have anything to lose and he showed his quality and it was a really, really great second and third set.

“I’m happy with my game overall. I think everything was working really well. There were just a couple of games in the second set where I didn’t move as efficiently as maybe I did in the first set. But aside from that, everything is working great. I’m feeling better and better every match.”

SIMON – BAKER 6-4, 6-1, 6-7, 1-6, 6-0

The American was about to perform another miracle in his incredible comeback. After losing the first 2 sets without giving many troubles to Simon, the American fought back to win the third and forth set. It seemed that everything was ready for an epic win, but unfortunately the American melted down in the decider to lose it at 0.

Talking abour his comeback. “I felt like I had some unfinished business,” Baker said. “It’s not like I stopped tennis because I just got tired of it. It was taken away because my body wouldn’t hold up. I always wanted to come back, it was just whether I could or not. When I started feeling good enough to give it a go, I wanted for sure to do that. I didn’t want to look back and wish I had given it one more shot.”

“In November 2005 I had my first left hip surgery,” he recalled. “Then in June or July 2006, I had a sports hernia surgery. I didn’t actually have surgery in 2007. In 2008 I had three surgeries. In February, I had ulnar collateral ligament surgery on my right elbow. Then in April I had my left hip done again. Then I had my right hip done. I think it was in June. No more since then. It’s been good.”
