Sharapova, Kvitova to clash in the semis – 2012 Roland Garros

The two halves of the draw couldn’t be more different. In the top half we have the seed nr.6 (Sam Stosur) that will play with surprising Sara Errani (seed no.21). The semifinal of the second part of the draw was more predictable with the top 2 seeds to clash for a place in the final.

SHARAPOVA – KANEPI 6-2 6-3

Another thrash from Maria that conceded only 5 games to the Estonian in only 74 minutes. Something different from the previous round where she survived a scare to defeat Zakopalova in more than 3 hours (see article). ”I’m happy with the way I improved in this match,” Sharapova commented.

Talking about her upcoming match with Kvitova, “She seems to be playing really well. When she’s confident, when she’s hitting the ball, she’s quite dangerous, so, yeah, obviously it’s going to be another level,” Sharapova said of Petra. “I hope that I can raise my level as well, too.”

KVITOVA – SHVEDOVA 3-6, 6-2, 6-4

Great match here with Shedova giving it all despite being “Just super-tired. It’s been a super-long tournament, like it’s my third week in a row,”. Shedova first round of qualification started the 23rd of May!

Finally Kvitova made it coming from a 1 set deficit. “I expected it will be tough match and it was, actually. She started well and I was very nervous from the beginning. The first set I did easy mistakes,” she said. “Then I knew that I had to change my game and I have to be the aggressive one and going for the points.”

Head to head is 3-2 for Sharapova (1-0 on clay). Maria looks to be the favourite here. If she wins the semis she will be the new world no.1
