NADAL – BELLUCCI 7-6 (0) 6-2 6-3

Rafa survives a first set scare where he was 4-0 down to recover in style and then wrap up the match with an easy second and third set. Bellucci was a tough and unpredictable first round, but at the end of the day Rafa’s consistency gave to the Spaniard the second round.

I’m very happy to be back on the best court in the world and winning,” Nadal said. “It’s fantastic for me, but I have to improve a lot for the next round.”

MURRAY – DAVYDENKO 6-1 6-1 6-4

Andy starts his horrible draw (see article here) in style by trashing the Russian in 92 minutes. 

“The first two sets were very good, I got off to a great start,” Murray said.

“Since Queen’s I’ve been itching to get going and I’m glad to get out of the blocks quickly. I was hitting the ball very cleanly from the beginning and I hit my slice very well, which is important against Davydenko.

“I’ve got to be ready for the next match – if it’s Karlovic I have to strike the ball and serve well.”

Fish defeated Hidalgo (the oldest man in the main draw at 34 years of age) 7-6 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (1) to have a wonderful comeback after his horrible health scare (see article here).

Tomic is badly upset by Goffin 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 and Almagro survives Rochus Almagro survived Rochus in 3 hours, 24 minutes blasting 48 aces.

And Roddick? well.. he didn’t manage to finish the match (suspended by th rain), but he won the shot of the day with an incredible dive – see video.
