Azarenka wins, Kvitova upset, Sharapova blessed by the rain

Here we are with a typical roller coaster in ladies tennis

Azarenka -Tatishvili 6-2 6-2

It took 83 minutes for Vika to get to the next round. Even if she was not 100% happy about her tennis she just overpowered her opponent to win 71 points vs. 49.

“There were a few things I felt like I could have done better,” Azarenka said. “Could have been more aggressive and step up a little bit more when I had the chance. But in the end I found that rhythm that I was looking for, and that’s important. I let my racket talk, not really me talking,” Azarenka added. “I think that’s important. You really show when you’re on the court are you a favorite? Are you not a favorite? Are you playing well? Are you not playing well? In the end of the day, your game is what shows, you know, who you are in the tennis world.”

In the quarter finals Azarenka will play Sam Stosur (6-4 6-4 on Laura Robson). Head to Head is 6-0 for Azarenka. Sam Stosur has never won a single set with the Belarus.

Bartoli – Kvitova 1-6 6-2 6-0

Here we an upset. Petra was having a very nice North American campaign after winning in Montreal and New Haven. Actually the campaign was succesful till the last 2 sets where she could just win a couple of games.  Anoter disappointment for the Czech.

Sharapova – Petrova 6-1 4-6 6-4

We had a bit of a dramma. Maria won the first set in style (Maria’s style) to then going on vacation and find herself 0-2 down in the 3rd set. At that point the favour of Gods helped the Russian beauty as the rain broke. It was a very good (for Sharapova) 75 minutes break that helped Maria to regroup and win the third set 6-4.

Sharapova will play Bartoli in the quarters. Head to Head is 4-0 for Maria *she has never dropped a set with Marion).
