Tomic reaches the final in Sydney

Finally Tomic reaches his first career final and it had to be in Australia… where else?

Tomic – Seppi 7-6 (10) 6-4

It took 1 hour and 25 minutes for Tomic to down the Italian. The first set was quite even as Tomic scored the same points as Seppi (49 each) to win an extremely complicated tiebreak at 10. Tomic was pretty good at defending all 6 break points he conceded to Seppi in the first set.

In the second set Bernard broke Andreas at the first (and only) time asking to win 6-4.

“It’s about time I really got to one of these finals,” said Tomic. “I had a lot of chances – not a lot, but I had a few tournaments where I had quarters in the past year and lost in tight matches. To do it here is a great privilege and honour, to do it here in Australia. It’s going to be a huge final for me tomorrow, and I’m going to give my heart out there tomorrow to do as best as I can to win.”

Anderson – Benneteau 3-6 6-4 7-6 (8)

Inspiring victory from the South African giant that saved 2 match points to reach the final. It took 2 hours and 23 minutes (and 18 aces!) for Kevin to beat the Frenchman.

“The first set was pretty tough,” said Anderson. “I thought the conditions were really quick. It was really important in the second set just to try to take care of my serve games. Fortunately I got a break and then kept it going to the third. It got quite tricky at 4-3 when I was broken back. I sort of started to get quite tired. The last few games were definitely a battle out there.”

The Final – Tomic – Anderson Head to Head.

Head to head is 1-1. These two played twice. The first time they played the first round in Notthingam 2010 where  Anderson won 7-6 (8) 6-1. The second time it was Tomic to win a tough 7-6(5) 6-7(4) 6-3 in Shanghai 2011.

Tomic seems to be the favorite to win this one.
