Tomic triumphs in Sydney

Great great stuff from Tomic that wins his first ATP title in his homeland!

Australia was the perfect place to start his route to greatness. Tomic looked to be very focused and inspired since he played in Perth the Hopman Cup to even defeat the great Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

Sydney was definately a different venue, but it was clear from the beginning that the Australian could do something important in this tournament. Bernard was full of confidence from the very beginning aware of what he could achieve.

Tomic – Anderson 6-3 6-7 (2) 6-3

It was a strange match. To tell the truth Bernard seemed to be always in control, but the South African was difficult to deal with. It took almot 2 hours to down Kevin and strange enough Tomic scored the same amount of points of his opponent (93).

Even if Anderson blasted a whopping 13 aces on 14 service games, he conceded 11 break points (Tomic converted 2).

From Tomic

“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Tomic.

“Now that I know what it feels like to win a tournament and it’s the best feeling in the world. I’m so happy I won.

To do it here in Sydney is awesome. I can’t ask for anything better. I’m so proud of myself. Can’t stop here now. I’ve got to look to the next tournament and keep playing the tennis I’ve been playing.”

“I’ll win a lot more”

“It’s my first title, and I know I’ll win a lot more if I keep this attitude up,” added Tomic.

“I’m happy for this year now. I’m so excited. I’m looking forward to Melbourne. I feel unstoppable. I feel like I’m playing great tennis. It’s amazing stepping on court. You’re so confident.

That’s going to be taken down to Melbourne and I’m going to use that for every match I play there.”
