Great stuff from Maria.. and not so great from Venus.
The Russian hit the court in style by blasting whatever she had at Venus that was unable to fight back. The match was a sort of massacre till the second part of the second set when Venus started to play a bit better and Maria wasn’t as “perfect” as before… but it was to late
The match finished after 79 minutes with a grim 6-1 6-3.

“I think when we both looked at the draw, it was a matchup we were both looking forward to,” Sharapova said . “I was a really determined player out there because I knew the tennis that she’s capable of producing and playing. She’s a tremendous athlete and a great champion.”
Maria will play the next round against Kisten Flipkens. Head to head is 2-0 for Sharapova.
