Azarenka and Serena reach the 4th round in Melbourne

Vika and Serena to the 4th round in different fashion.

Azarenka – Hampton 6-4 4-6 6-2

Difficult match here as Vika had to battle through a complicated 3rd set when she was one break down. The Belarus took advantage of her experience and the fact that Jamie Hampton got injured in the second set to her lower back.

Finally it was Vika to win in 2 hours and 10 minutes.

“She played incredible; she went for every single shot,” said Azarenka. “She has a great future and has a big potential.”

“She had a medical time-out and yet she continued to rip winners all over the place,” Azarenka added . “I’m feeling great and I’m missing every shot.”

Vika will play Vesnina in the next round (4-6 7-6 (4) 6-4 on Roberta Vinci). Head to head is 3-0 for Azarenka that has never lost a set with Vesnina.

Serena – Morita 6-1 6-3

Interesting match here as the Japanese offered a very good resistance. Serena had to regroup in the second set when she found herself 0-3 in no time to then win 6 consecutive games.

Serena matched her previous record about her fastest serve (207 km/h) and the 2nd fastest serve in tennis history (ladies… after her sister Venus!).

“I tried to hit it really hard. I hit 207 (kph) the other day and I thought it was luck,” Serena said. “But I did it again and I was like ‘Whew!’ I’m going to try to go for 210. We’ll see.”

Serena will play the 4th round against Kirilenko. Head to Head is 5-0 for Serena.
