It has been long time since Rafa played his infamous match against Rosol in Wimbledon. Then Rafa had to comeback in Doha, but a stomach virus didn’t make it happen. Then Rafa decided not to risk to play his first tournament in a Slam to skip the Australian Open.
The King of Clay then decided to stage a major comeback in February playing 3 events: in Chile, Brazil and Mexico.
Playing in Vina del Mar just means that Rafa will be back a bit early as the tournament starts the 4th of February. Rafa commented in a tweet: “Very grateful for the welcome in Chile on my participation in the tournament! Eager to play there!”
Rafa’s uncle, Toni Nadal commented “He’s ready and wants to go back playing in Chile where he has never played. Rafael is very motivated and he’s willing to do well. It will be hard to play at his best after so much time, but we’ll give our all. We arrive with the same enthusiasm that every year we show for Roland Garros”.
