Oh… Jo it wasn’t a great idea getting there. You should know… when public people joke about gender or race they should expect attacks from everywhere.
What happened
During an interview it has been asked to Jo why there isn’t a clear dominant group in women’s tennis. The Frenchman said the reason is their emotional instability.
“The girls they are more unstable emotionally than us,” Tsonga said jokingly “I’m sure everybody will say it’s true, even the girls. No? You don’t think?”
Jo had a big smile to add “I mean, it’s just about hormones and all this stuff. We don’t have all these bad things so we are physically in a good shape every time and you are not. That’s it.”
Ups… that wasn’t the smartest thing to say, but come on… not a big deal… he was joking.
The Reaction
Unfortunately his declarations opened up the opportunity to people to criticized the Frenchman to even overshadow his good effort against King Roger that had to endure a 5 setter to beat Tsonga.
Useless talks about discrimination, racism etc were already discussed wen Caroline Wozniacki was considered racist (???) for imitating Serena Williams.
Solutions?
We can see 3 things
1- It would be nice to take it easy when these guys have some fun or make some jokes.
2- Roger should definately start a course on diplomacy in sports.
3- and Jo… give a rose to every female that is going to attend your next interview as a nice gesture…. that would be nice and it willl work 😉
