Nadal meets the Chilean President Sebastian Piñera

Rafa starts his South American campaign in style.

“I’m happy to be in Chile for the first time. I want to enjoy this week at Vina del Mar. I hope everything works out. I’ll try to do my best and take it one day at a time. I’m ready for competition.” Rafa said on his arrival.

As soon as he arrived in Santiago, he had a very warm welcome from the Chilean crowd to then fresh up and meet… of course… the President of Chile!

In their one hour long chat Rafa had the time to say how happy he was for the warm welcome he had as soon as he landed. Rafa gave to the president a tennis racket and in return he received a book on the history of Chile.

Then the Spaniard headed to Vina del Mar where to have his first training session with a very excited teenager and tennis promise 16-year-old Christian Garin.

About his knee

“My knee is much better,” said Nadal. “The tests show that there is no danger of suffering a bigger injury. I still have some pain, which doesn’t let me be on court as much as I’d like, but I have to start at some point.”

About his comeback

“It was the best decision to come to a country for the first time. Vina del Mar has the surface I need. Losing in the first round is something that could happen, because I haven’t played in such a long time. I hope that doesn’t happen and I can get back in form.” added Rafa.

Vamos Rafa! We are really eager to see you back!
