French players in full steam in Montpellier

Good news for French tennis as 50% of the quarterfinalists at the 2013 Open Sud de France come from their country.

Gasquet defeated his friends and fellow countryman Gael Monfils in 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in a quite erratic match. It took 89 minutes for Gilles Simon to beat Spanish qualifier (world no.184) Arnau Brugues-Davi 7-6 (5) 6-2.

Benneteau had a very solid match against Victor Hanescu from Romania to win 6-4 6-4 without conceding a break in just 65 minutes.

Finally Michael Llodra performed the upset of the day defeating seed no.2 Janko Tipsarevic 6-3 7-6 (4). The Frenchman displayed a very solid service game to blast 13 aces (no double faults) in 11 service games without conceding a single break point.

In the previous day Benoit Paire also reached the quarters defeating Steve Darcis 4-6 7-6 (11) 6-4 in 2 hours and 16 minutes.
