“It was a tough match as expected. This surface suits him and it was seen today again,” Cilic commented. 

“I did not serve as I wanted to, so I had to try to find different approach. There was lot of baseline exchanges, lots of running and tactical solutions.”

On the other side of the draw Melzer is getting back to his best tennis to dispatch Haase 7-6 (2) 6-3 in 81 minutes without conceding a single break.

“I felt I played a very good match. It was for sure the best of the tournament so far,” said Melzer. 

“I felt like I was the better player the whole first set. I just couldn’t convert my chances. I had to stay focused, which I did in the tie-break.”
