Emotional Serena beats Kvitova to reclaim world no.1

It was since October 2012 that Serena lost the no.1 spot. The American will be ranked again world no1. after this week to become the oldest world no1. in ladies’ tennis history.

After defeating Petra Kvitova in a 2 hours and 7 minutes battle, Serena broke in tears to comment.

“I’m so sensitive nowadays,” she said.

“I’m always crying, but I never thought I would be here again. I’ve been through so much and I just never thought I’d be here, so thank you Jehovah for giving me another chance.”

Thinking about her doubts

“There were often times that I never thought I’d play again,” she said. “Then I thought I’d never be able to win tournaments or Grand Slams.

“Number one was so far off. I mean, it was always a dream, but I was number one when tragedy struck, and it was just an awful thing to happen. So I’m happy that I’m back.”

Serena will play against Maria Sharapova in the semifinals. Head to head is 10-2 for Serena that won the last 9.

In the other semifinal Azarenka will play Radwanska in a replica of last year’s controversial semifinals. Head to head is 12-3 for Vika that won the last 6.
