Djokovic beats dangerous Goffin in 3 difficult sets in French Open opener

Tricky stuff for Nole that had to overcome a very good Goffin in his opener in Paris.

Djokovic used all his vast experience to beat the yougster that was going for broke as soon as he could. In the first set the duo went to the tiebreak. Goffin was leading 4-3 to then commit a couple of (tense) mistakes and lose the breaker at 5.

In the second set the Belgian managed to recover a 2-4 deficit to then being broken again in the 9th game. In the third set David went once again to the distance to be broken in the 10th game.

From Nole

The world no.1 was quite happy to win the match in stright sets to comment “He did really well at the start, and throughout all the match he was playing really nice tennis from baseline,

It was a tough match. I needed to fight all the way through every set, and I served well when I needed to and played my best tennis when it was most important.”

Next with Pella

Nole will play the second round against world no.83 Guido Pella that won an epic 5 setter against Ivan Dodig 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 12-10 in three hours and 24 minutes.
