Good news for Gulbis as for tennis. The “mad” Latvian won his 3rd career title (2nd in Delray Beach) with a straight set win with Roger-Vasselin.
It took 1 hour and 36 minutes for Ernests to win this match with many ups and downs. Roger-Vasselin had a set point in the first set… but “I thought I served pretty well,” Roger-Vasselin said. “I had a set point but he made an unbeliable backhand winner.”
From Ernests
“It’s my favorite tournament. It’s the only tournament in the world I am winning,” Gulbis said.
“I’m really happy,” Gulbis added. “I worked hard. These last nine days were tough. I had a match almost every day, except one day it rained, so I’m exhausted now.”
About his ranking
“I hope it’s your breakthough tournament as it is for me, to come back from when I was 150,000th in the world,” Gulbis commented . “I’d like to make the top 50.”
Gulbis leap from 42 poistions to be ranked world no.67 (from no.109). Refreshing…
