Andy Murray was hoping to start the new season in the best possible way with a good run at the Australian Open. Unfortunately, that will not happen.
The former world no.1 was found positive for Coronavirus before flying to Australia and therefore he had to stay in isolation at home. Fortunately, Andy recovered and he was trying to find a solution to get Down Under and play the slam.
Unfortunately, Andy couldn’t reach an agreement as he couldn’t skip the 14 days’ quarantine that would be imposed on landing by the local government.
Murray released the following statement:
“Gutted to share that I won’t be flying out to Australia to compete at the Australian Open. We’ve been in constant dialogue to try and find a solution which would allow some form of workable quarantine, but we couldn’t make it work.
I want to thank everyone there for their efforts. I’m devastated not to be playing out in Australia. It’s a country and tournament that I love,”
We'll miss you @andy_murray – see you next year champ. https://t.co/VnOdAEguIU

Murray and the Australian Open
Andy has a rather interesting relationship with the Australian Open as he has never managed to win the title despite reaching 5 finals.
In 2019, it almost seemed as he announced his retirement after losing against Roberto Bautista-Agut. Eventually, he got a hip operation to win a tournament later in the year in Antwerp.
