Great Sharapova destroys Wozniacki to win in Indian Wells

This was a fantastic fortnight for Maria.

The Russian beauty was expected to be the winner of this tournament after Serena Williams and Vika Azarenka pulled out, and Agnieszka Radwanska was upset by Maria Kirilenko. Sharapova didn’t disappoint.

The Final

The final was quite a one way traffic. Caroline Wozniacki is definitely back to a good competitive tennis, but she is still far from Maria when she plays at her best. Eventually Sharapova didn’t drop a single service game to break the Dane 4 times. Maria won a total 65 points vs Wozniacki’s 39. The match ended after 1 hour and 21 minutes.

From Maria

“I think it was a tough match, a tough battle, and there were a lot of games that went to deuce and a lot of long games,” said Sharapova. “I always felt like I was always a foot ahead, especially with the breaks. I was able to serve well today, and that helped me.”

“This is what I do all the work for is these moments, you feel like everything has paid off.” she added.

From Caroline

“She was putting pressure on me from the start. She was serving very well. I felt like everything that she wanted to do today was going in.” said Wozniacki.

“She was making very few errors, and if she did, then it was really at the times where it didn’t really matter. I have to say she just played too well today.”

The Russian will be ranked world no.2 after this week.
