CORONAVIRUS. Andy Murray will have no preferential treatment in Australia

It seems more and more difficult for Andy Murray to play the Australian Open this year

Andy Murray is probably the most prominent player that may skip the upcoming Australian Open after testing positive for the Coronavirus. The former world no.1 was unable to board for Australia as he tested positive. He is now isolating at home and he is still hopeful of finding a way to play the Australian Open.

No preferential treatment

Andy’s dream to play the major Down Under may be shattered after the government of Victoria’s appropriate statement that has a zero-tolerance policy to contain the Coronavirus.

Martin Foley, the Minister of Health, released the following statement:

“In regards to Mr Murray, we’ve been clear from the start that anyone who tests positive is not able to be part of the program coming into Melbourne and Australia.

Mr Murray, and the other 1240 people as part of the program, need to demonstrate that if they’re coming to Melbourne they have returned a negative test.

So should Mr Murray arrive, and I have no indication that he will, he will be subject to those same rigorous arrangements as everyone else.

Should he test positive prior to his attempts to come to Australia, he will be refused.”

Tennis Australia is doing an amazing job in organizing the Australian Open and the preceding events. However, there is some criticism that this influx of people could be harmful to the local population. The US Open had to face the same complaints, but eventually it was a huge success given the situation.
