Confident Federer says he is fit and excited for being back

Roger had a strange start of the year. He has been playing a remarkable tennis, but for different reasons he is struggling with the results.

Now ranked as world no2, Roger is coming back after a long hiatus as he has not been competing since Indian Wells where he had to bow to a back injury and then to his nemesis: Rafael Nadal.

During a recent interview Roger said he is confident about his opportunities in Madrid where he is about to defend his 2012 title.

About resting

“For me, it was important to take a bit of a rest – not too – just enough so I’m really sort of tough to beat in the next few months,” commented the Maestro.

About his fitness

“I’ve just been home and practising hard as I was hoping to. I feel good now,” added Federer. “It took me a little time to get over my back issue from Indian Wells. But at the same time, that collided with my vacation anyway, which was okay, so I didn’t lose much time there. “

About his schedules

“Now I feel good. I’m obviously extremely excited being back on Tour. I’m sort of entering all the tournaments from here through to the US Openreally, so it’s going to be a long stretch. You want to be ready for it. I’m very excited, which is a good thing.” he concluded.

Opener vs. Stepanek

Roger will play his opener against Radek Stepanek that has defeated Tomic 6-3 6-2. Head to head is 12-2 for Roger, but only 3-2 on clay.
