Roger is still optimistic even after losing in the third round in Madrid against Nishikori, something nobody has really expected.
The Swiss Maestro has played so far 5 tournaments in 2013 without managing to reach even a final and he has now become world no.3, with the possibility to become world no.4 or 5 if doesn’t get any meaninful result in the following months.
About his long preparation
Roger decided to skip Miami, Monaco and to take a 7 week long break to prepare for the coming season to comment.
“I hope it’s going to have some effect eventually,” Federer said “Clearly for that I need to start playing well now and put myself deep into a tournament.”
“Most of them have played two or three tournaments on clay and I’m still looking to get into it, but that can be a big advantage down the stretch,” Roger said. “But for that I need to start winning matches, and I hope I can start here.”
About being criticized
“I could have played six weeks in a row. I chose to take seven weeks off” Federer commented. “There’s no glory in that. People don’t respect it enough until I’m going to win a big tournament again, then they’ll say how smart I was. That’s why you just take it as it comes.”
Roger will play his opening match against Starace, time to show once again he is still the Maestro…
