Sloane Stephens advances in Rome

Finally a good win from Sloane that is back to win after 4 consecutive defeats.

The American is one of the most promising players on tour to grab the limelight after her incredible Australian Open when she defeated her tennis hero Serena Williams to reach the semifinals. From that moment on, Sloane couldn’t deliver anymore to be entangled also in a strange controversy with Serena.

Now Sloane made good statement in Rome to defeat former top 10 player Flavia Pennetta 6-3 6-3.

“I felt like I played well. It’s definitely tough playing against Flavia in Rome – I played her here last year so I knew it would be tough – but I’ve been practicing hard and I love clay so I felt good out there. I’m happy to get back on the clay.” said Sloane

Next vs. Bertens

Sloane will play Kiki Bertens in the second round (7-6 (5) 6-1). This is the first time they play each other.
